Actually, Google got it's name from the number googol. Google is actually the common name for a number with a million zeros.
A googol is the large number 10100. In decimal notation, it is written as the digit 1 followed by one hundred zeros:
10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.
According to google.com, "Google's use of the term [Google] reflects the company's mission to organize the immense, seemingly infinite amount of information available on the web."
